About Us
Welcome to Umah Pupa! Where we will introduce you to the charm of bioconversion and sustainable practice.
Our Team
Umah Pupa started from our concern about the waste problem around us. With the abundance of waste people generate everyday, what can we do to reduce them?
Then we found out about this little creature called Black Soldier Fly larvae that could eat organic matters with an impressive time spend, and there is so much benefit that we can get from the BSF life cycle. In order to know more about their life cycle and their impact, we decided to start this in our small lab in our own backyard.
In nature, there are no waste products: everything that is created and discarded simply becomes the raw materials for the next part of the complex cycles of life, the very essence of sustainability.
Processing waste doesn’t have to become something yucky or perceived as dirty work, but through this process, we want to introduce this as a sort of beautiful transformation from waste into some valuable products. From those products, we can get a good quality of organic goods, good quality fertilizer for the plants, and many more.
Umah Pupa tried to get the cycles back that mimic nature’s cycles and ensure that every unneeded, unusable, discarded, or worn-out material is returned to the appropriate point to be used again. In this case, Black Soldier Fly is our allies for the challenge. The larvae can reduce the amount of organic waste in a significant amount and quickly.
Each life cycle of the Black Soldier Fly can be utilized for new products. BSF larvae can eat organic waste, can be used as natural food for livestock such as chickens, ducks, shrimp, etc. Maggot’s can also be used as plant fertilizer. We applied our natural fertilizer in our organic gardens.
Our insects and farm are located in Bona Village, Gianyar, Around 10 km from Ubud. We also provide farm tours and education regarding waste management using BSF technology. You can visit our Umah Pupa Station in the heart of Ubud, to see our programs, register for the farm tour, and to get our products delivered directly from our farm.
