Umah Pupa started from our concern about the waste problem around us. With the abundance of waste people generate everyday, what can we do to reduce them?
Then we found out about this little creature called Black Soldier Fly larvae that could eat organic matters with an impressive time spend, and there is so much benefit that we can get from the BSF life cycle.
In order to know more about their life cycle and their impact, we decided to start this in our small lab in our own backyard.
In nature, there are no waste products: everything that is created and discarded simply becomes the raw materials for the next part of the complex cycles of life, the very essence of sustainability.
Processing waste doesn’t have to become something perceived as dirty work, but through this process, we want to introduce this as a sort of beautiful transformation from waste into some valuable products.
With help from the amazing Black Soldier Fly (BSF), we turn organic waste into something useful again. They’re also a great natural feed for chickens, ducks, shrimp, and more. Plus, their leftovers make awesome fertilizer for our organic garden.
Our insect farm is in Gianyar — just 10 km from Ubud. Want to see it in action? Visit Umah Pupa Station in central Ubud to learn more. Join a farm tour, or get our eco-products straight from the source!
